Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I change the TurboCAD interface to match that of the CADCourse training movies.

A: The following movie is applicable for all versions of TurboCAD including version 18 which contains an interface similar to that found in version 14.  You will be able to click a link in the movie to download the file and the movie will explain how to copy it to the correct location.

Tutorial movie – loading the CADCourse TurboCAD Interface configuration

Use one the following configurations according to each version number (either Deluxe or Pro):

TurboCAD 18 Config.zip

TurboCAD 17 Config.zip

TurboCAD 16 Config.zip

TurboCAD 15 Config.zip

TurboCAD 14 Config.zip

TurboCAD 12 Config.zip

TurboCAD 11 Config.zip

Earlier versions of TurboCAD such as 11 or 12 need to download specific configuration files that can be found in the movie above at about 6 minutes into the movie.

Extract the above zipped config files to the correct TurboCAD config folder:

Only once you see the cadcoursev17.xml and the cadcoursev17.xcfg in this config folder will you be able to access it from within TurboCAD using the "Tools|Customize" menu ...

Access the "cadcoursev17" from the drop down list and then click the "Load From" button above to load the CADCourse Screen Interface layout.

Q: When I install TurboCAD I get the error message “Your serial number is either missing or incorrect”

A: When trying to launch TurboCAD if a user receives the error message “Your serial number is either missing or incorrect” then either there is a problem with registry virtualization or the serial number did not get input correctly.

 1) In most cases right clicking the TC icon on the desktop and choosing run as administrator should fix the problem.

 2) If the user must continually run as administrator then registry virtualization is not working correctly.  This is normally caused by installing the software with registry virtualization turned off. So either UAC was turned off or they ran the installer as administrator.

Start/Run “regedit”  (May need to do this as Administrator, or give Admin permissions to run Regedit)

In the left column of RegEdit, do Ctrl-Home to highlight “Computer” at the top of the list.

 Edit/Find “VirtualStore”

This should locate the VirtualStore folder in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

 Expand VirtualStore to show MACHINE

 Expand MACHINE to show SOFTWARE

Look for IMSIDesign (may be an empty folder) inside the SOFTWARE category (for 64-bit systems, you may have to expand the Wow6432Node folder).

Right-click on IMSIDesign and select “Delete”. (Or if you are feeling paranoid cautious, choose “Rename” and give it a different name such as IMSIDESIGN_0).

The program should now launch without having to “Run as administrator”

3) The serial number may actually be missing or incorrect in the registry.  “Run as administrator”  will not help in this case. Re-installing TC should fix the problem.  If for some reason the installer does not overwrite the sn in the registry you will need to manually change it.

Here is the location of Pro 17 on a 64 bit system.  On 32 you will not need to open the Wow6432Node folder.

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\IMSIDesign\TurboCAD Professional 17

Right click the SN entry and modify.  Type in the serial number letters in uppercase dashes every four characters.
